From the indigenous language “vast field”, Jacobina reveals itself amid big walls, auriferous hills, grottos, the clear waters of lagoons, rivers and a variety of waterfalls. The “City of Gold” also has a rich historic and cultural heritage; inherited of the mining times, which attracted explorers from São Paulo in the beginning of the 17th century.
Home to an exuberant nature, Jacobina is also the right route for extreme sport lovers. Rappel, trekking and biking are some of the options. But adventure is not the only attraction, in the evenings the nightclubs, bars and restaurants are always full of people.
Jacobina’s Municipal Market displays the most authentic handcrafts of Bahia’s Sertão, with works in leather, clay and ceramic. At the fair, people find a variety of fruit from the region and objects of the popular culture. Located in the northwestern region of Bahia, at the far north of Chapada Diamantina, Jacobina is 330km away from Salvador.
